white-space: nowrap中的wrap怎么理解？

The opposite value is nowrap, which prevents text from wrapping within an element, except wherever you use abrelement.

这两句都翻不通顺啊
第一句：“文本不会包裹到下一行”？（连被动语态都不用？）
第二句：“nowrap防止文本在一个元素里包裹”？
反正感觉挺别扭
请问，这里wrap这个词究竟该如何理解？
